CHELSEA-DERBY PORCELAIN PLATE DECORATED BY WILLIAM BILLINGSLEY C.1778-82
"Simply
the finest quality Chelsea-Derby period English porcelain. A beautiful
cabinet plate or dish exquisitely decorated with hand coloured floral
groups with further rose sprays set in vignettes against a sumptuous
mazarine blue border. The blue ground border is further enhanced by an
exquisite grape vine trailing decoration in raised gilding of the highest
quality. A
wonderful museum quality Chelsea-Derby item for the very best
connoisseur
antique china display cabinet or English porcelain collection. The
floral decoration is by a young William Billingsley who was
apprenticed to Derby in 1774. We estimate this piece was
painted between 1778 and 1782 either shortly before or soon after
Billingsley completed his apprenticeship. The border decoration in
raised gilding may also be by Billingsley." Antiques Expert
