PLATE BY PERCY SIMPSON C.1926-1936
"A
beautiful fine Coalport porcelain Fruit pattern
cabinet plate: an example of best, traditional, English cabinet china.
This stunning hand painted piece of Coalport is from the talented hand
of Percy Simpson - one of the finest ceramic
artists working at Coalport in the early years of the twentieth
century. A simply wonderful still life study of an apple and cherries
signed by the artist - as you can see - and enhanced by the intricate
raised/tooled gilded border against an apple green ground. A quality
collectable that
will enhance any collection of fine ceramics." Antiques Expert

References:
Percy Simpson was one of the finest later Coalport
ceramic artists. He painted for the concern in Shropshire between 1901
and 1926. When the Coalport name then moved to Staffordshire, Simpson
went with it to later become art director. It is likely this piece was
produced in the early years after the move. Interesting to note that
the style and subject matter is also reminiscent of the work of
Frederick H. Chivers who left Coalport for Worcester with the
relocation.
