DEVON ART POTTERY NORMANDY JUG ATTRIBUTED TO ALLER VALE AFTER 1881
"Once easy to find, these Devon and similar art pottery pieces are become scarcer and more expensive as they disappear into worldwide collector cabinets and distinctive decor schemes. This stunning running green glaze effect on cream ground was known at the Aller Vale Art Pottery as the Normandy pattern/finish." Antiques Expert Hamilton Bear.

References: Early 20th century 'green-glaze' pottery pieces were often sold through the exclusive influential London decorative arts store Liberty and Co. So many of these 'greenware' pieces were supplied in this fashionable colour that soon the phrase "Liberty Green" was used to describe all similar items. Many of the Devon art potteries supplied wares to be sold at Liberty. Occasionally these carry an additional impressed "Liberty" backstamp. See similar pieces illustrated in the Encyclopedia of British Art Pottery, V. Bergesen, colour plate III . Aller Vale are credited with the invention and first production of Devon pottery Motto wares
