BELLEEK IRISH PORCELAIN TEA CUP AND SAUCER ECHINUS PATTERN FIRST BLACK MARK C.1863-1890
"A stylish, rare, Irish Belleek First Black Mark tea cup and saucer set: a classic Belleek marine nautical design based on coral. Pieces of this unique Victorian Belleek Echinus pattern - one of the earliest Belleek teaware designs; are always popular. The Echinus design tea service was registered with the British Patent Office London on 22d February 1869. A great example of the subtle, clean, restrained, decorative white parian porcelain style that has made Belleek pottery famous worldwide. The uncommon impressed Belleek mark to the base of the saucer indicates that this is an early example." Antiques Expert Hamilton Bear.

References: Queen Victoria ordered a service in this pattern.
Dimensions: height cup 55 mm max. width saucer 142 mm max.
Marks: First Black Mark printed to cup and impressed to saucer.
Condition: There is one short hairline crack from the edge of the saucer (illustrated) which appears to have been 'held' by a trace of modern adhesive. It does not weaken the piece and is quite difficult to spot. Overall the display qualities of cup and saucer are very good.
