A LIVERPOOL CREAMWARE LARGE MARRIAGE JUG, LEEDS DECORATED BY ROBINSON AND RHODES, DATED 1790
"A super antique creamware commemorative marriage jug inscribed "John & Hannah Went 1790". Went is a relatively unusual surname but appears to have been common to the county of Gloucestershire England. The sinuous flowing shape and design of this piece is simply classic Liverpool pottery. Decoration is by the highly regarded Leeds enamelers Robinson and Rhodes and is straight out of their sketch book, see below. This highly original antique is an antique pottery jewel - and a piece of social history; not to be missed by the serious and knowledgeable collector." Antiques Expert Hamilton Bear.

Dimensions: height 217 mm max. approximately 8 1/2 inches.
Marks: none.
Condition: In very good display condition and overall a great example. Condition report: Decoration remains excellent. A tiny rim chip to edge of spout has been filled and painted. At some point two foot rim chips have also been filled and painted. Close to one is a faint surface glaze cross hairline as illustrated and a further hairline across the flat corner of the underside base. There is also a faint hairline from the neck of the jug which is not immediately apparent. To the other side near the neck typical crazing has occurred to the glaze.
