"A stunning British art pottery large vase marked and dated Howsons 1912. Both the vivid red colouring and flambe glaze effect, with metallic style streaked glazes, are reminiscent of the work of Bernard Moore. British art pottery Staffordshire is always interesting and collectable: every glaze effect piece is effectively unique. This is a great item for interior design display." Antiques Expert Hamilton Bear.

References: G. Howson and Sons Hanley works Stoke on Trent, produced art pottery wares around 1912-14 when contemporary potter-artists; including Bernard Moore and William Howson Taylor at Ruskin; were also experimenting with chemistry and glazes. Surviving examples of the Howsons art pottery products appear rare. See English Art Pottery 1865-1915, Malcolm Haslam (ACC 1975) Figure 164 page 183 for a similar Howson art vase also dated 1912.
Dimensions: height 172 mm max.
Marks: hand painted "Howsons 1912" in script as illustrated.
Condition: No significant defects in our opinion. There are no chips, cracks, or restoration. Minor scratches/scuffing wear to the highly polished glazed surface. These do not really impact on the fabulous display qualities and enjoyment of this wonderful Staffordshire art pottery piece. We rate this A1 for display ... a great item!
